Robert Maynard Hutchins (1899-1977) was an American educational philosopher who served as president of the University of Chicago from 1929 to 1945 and chancellor from 1945 to 1951. With Mortimer Adler he built the Great Books of the Western World curriculum, championing educational perennialism and liberal education through canonical texts and Socratic dialogue.
